New York City

Two weeks ago Griffin and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary over dinner at Gracie’s Resturant in Providence, but instead of spending money on presents this year, we decided to take a little road trip together. So we went to New York City for the weekend. Here’s a little recap of our journey:

10:00 a.m.

We arrived in New York City! We took a bus down because neither of us wanted to make the 3-hour journey by car. The bus ride was just short of 4 hours, and we arrived in Chelsea around 10:00 a.m. Considering we love to eat, obviously Griffin and I first move was to find food. Since we had been up for quite some time, we went to a small bagel place called “Bagel Maven” which was pretty good. I got a mango smoothie and an egg /bacon on a bagel while Griffin ordered coffee and a sesame bagel with chives cream cheese.

10:45 a.m.

After breakfast we were off to explore the city, we walked past Madison Square Garden and made our way to The Empire State Building, Macy’s, and of course Victoria Secret. The line for the Empire State Building was wayyy too long so we nixed that idea. Against his will, I dragged Griffin into Victoria Secret, but surprisingly didn’t buy anything. After that, we went into the Macy’s store and spent more time in the elevators trying to get from floor to floor than we actually did shopping. Regardless, we had a blast just looking at all the Christmas decorations and endless merchandise.

12:00 p.m.

After spending an excessive amount of time in the Macy’s store, Griffin and I started making our way to Times Square. Of course, I managed to provide myself with the quality excuse of “being cold” to get Starbucks along the way there.

1:00 p.m.

We finally arrived at Times Square, it always amazes me just how busy it is. It was overwhelming per usual, but I love standing on the red stairs and looking around at all the commotion happening.

1:45 p.m.

We began making our way from Times Square to the edge of Central Park. Griffin and I took a nice walk around Central Park and were amazed at how you feel as though you’re so far away from the city just being surrounded by nature.

2:15 p.m.

After our nice walk, we made our way back into the city to find food (again). We stopped by “Juice Press” which is famously recognized by YouTuber Casey Neistat in his vlogs. I got an Acai berry bowl topped with granola/coconut and Griffin got a lettuce wrap with a blueberry protein smoothie. Both were delicious, healthy, and filling.

3:00 p.m.

After some more walking, we made our way over to the Rockefeller Center to look at the Christmas Tree and ice skating rink. Unfortunately, this area was packed full of tourist so we were unable to appreciate the full beauty of everything, but that’s okay. We decided to make our way over to Bryant Park to shop around the concession stands, but Bryant Park was also chalked full of tourist, so nevermind getting that fried pickle stick I wanted so badly.

5:00 p.m.

Around this time Griffin and I started making our way towards SoHo which was close to where our dinner reservations were for the night. We shopped around SoHo for a good hour making our way to Lululemon, Urban Outfitters, and Apple killing time before dinner. At this point, my feet were pretty sore so we stopped into a coffee shop for a pre-dinner latte.

6:45 p.m.

For dinner, we went to “Alta Resturant” a Mediterranean tapas bar where we filled ourselves up with small plates of lamb, tartar, cheeses, and exotic mushrooms. Dinner was excellent and the Christmas decorations inside gave the place a cozy vibe.

That’s all! Griffin and I had a blast exploring New York City together, we loved trying different food places and seeing all that N.Y.C. has to offer!

EXPLORE.pngAlthough we didn’t do anything overwhelmingly fancy it was great to spend the day with one another and simply enjoy each other’s company. If you don’t know what to get your significant other for an anniversary gift, instead of spending money on something he or she won’t use, go and do something together. Even if it’s only a dozen miles from your home town it’s always fun to discover new places. Hope you enjoyed this blog post, where would you like to travel in 2017? Leave a comment below! xoxo
